Athlete successes from Fall 2009

The 2009-10 class of Athlete Enhancement Program (AEP) athletes is three months into their development cycle with the ASDC. Already identified as leaders in their chosen sports, the athletes have posted some remarkable results over the past few months.

Kayla Hauck – Figure Skating- Competed in Sectionals for the Lethbridge Figure Skating Club. She finished 5th in Women’s Pre-Novice behind some personal best scores and just missed the opportunity to compete at the Western Challenge in Ontario. Kayla is on the Western Challenge team as an alternate.

Shaelin Westerson – Figure Skating- Shaelin also competed in Sectionals in Springbank, finishing 29th overall. In her first competition as a Pre-Novice, Shaelin showed very well, posting personal best scores. Cody Smith – 5 pin bowling- In October, Cody posted a remarkable 369 score with 8 consecutive strikes in League play. He then followed up his hot play with a first place finish at the Winter Games Zone 1 Qualifying Tournament. Cody will now participate in the Alberta Winter Games in February.

Jessie Scheidegger/Megan Orr – Curling- Jessie and Megan have already one numerous bonspiels this fall, but most importantly qualified for Alberta Junior Provincials to be held in Grande Prairie with four wins in five contests at the Southern Alberta Junior playdowns in Red Deer. The winner of the provincials will represent Alberta in the Canadian Junior Championships held in Sorel-Tracy, QC, January 16-24, 2010.

Brendan Maclean- volleyball- Brendan won a silver medal at the 2009 ASAA 4-A Provincial Boys Volleyball Championship in Edmonton with his LCI teammates.
