Southwest Track Athletes make their mark
Loudia Laarman and Ryan Tarnava, both of Lethbridge, Alberta, delivered medals for the province of Alberta over the past weekend at the 2009 Canadaian Jr Track and Field Championships in Charlottetown, PEI.
Laarman won the Gold medal in the 200m with a time 24.20 on Sunday after capturing Silver in the 100m the day before. Her 100m time of 11.86 was five one hundreds of a second behind Crystal Emmanuel of York University. Loudia is entering Grade 12 at Winston Churchill HS and trains with the Lethbridge Track Club and was a member of the ASDC Southwest 2009 Spring Athlete Enhancement Program.
Tarnava, a member of the Chinook Track Club under the guidance of renowned throws coach Larry Steinke, won the bronze with a throw of 55.70 on his third throw. The Catholic Central grad was also a member of the Southwest Spring 09 AEP program.
