AEP athletes receive over $2500 of sport science services (strength & conditioning, mental training, etc.) at no cost.

ASDC SW Centre Coordinator added to Hockey Canada Mental Performance Group

Lethbridge, AB – Hockey Canada has named Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest (ASDC SW) Centre Coordinator, Joshua Hoetmer, as a Mental Performance Consultant for the World Under – 17 Hockey Challenge. Hoetmer is part of the Team Canada Red coaching staff and will focus on team building, goal setting, leadership development and individual mental coaching sessions.
The U17 World Hockey Challenge showcases the best U17 players from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and the United States. The tournament returns to Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, BC November 5 to 11. Hoetmer will also be presenting at this weekend’s Program of Excellence goaltending camp in Calgary with the top goaltenders in Canada, including Stuart Skinner of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Hoetmer graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2011 and was a member of the Emotion and Sport Performance Lab and later obtained his Masters in Counselling Psychology. He is a certified professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and has worked with elite athletes from all sports. Hoetmer currently provides mental training programs for the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball, University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s hockey, Team Alberta 2019 Canada Winter Games and ASDC SW athletes
Along with mental performance consulting, Hoetmer is also a Dynamic Edge Certified Sports Vision Trainer in providing Dynavision D2 and NeuroTracker services. ASDC SW owns the only Dynavision D2 sport vision board south of Calgary. Hoetmer has worked with local athletes, including WHL players Stuart Skinner and Kody MacDonald with sport vision training.
Lethbridge College & ASDC SW Partner for Volleyball and Running Prep Programs

Lethbridge - Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest and Lethbridge College are excited to launch the 2017 Volleyball and Running Prep programs. These programs are designed to prepare athletes for the upcoming seasons.
The Volleyball Prep program is a multi-dimensional program for male and female players in grades 7 to 12. The program includes a Development stream for players in grades 7 to 9 with no experience and a High Performance stream for players in grades 10 to 12 with at least one season of experience. Training will be led by LC Volleyball coaches Anna Schwark and Greg Gibos and will focus on technical skills development, strength and conditioning training and sports science sessions. The program runs Monday's and Tuesday's, June 19 to August 16. Deadline to register is Wednesday, June 14.
Volleyball Prep Program Registration
The 2017 Cross Country Running Prep program will help athletes between the ages of 10 and 18 improve running efficiency, learn training principles and psychological aspects of endurance sports, build self-confidence, and learn strategies to win! Athletes will be will be divided based on age and ability. The program is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings firm July 4 to August 24. Deadline to register is Monday, June 29.

ASDC SW Board Member to Receive Prestigious Award

Lethbridge – Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest (ASDC SW) congratulates founding and current ASDC SW board member Dr. Gary Bowie on being named to the Alberta Order of Excellence.
Dr. Bowie has champion sport development in Lethbridge for over five decades. In 2008, Dr. Bowie was a leading voice to establish a high-performance centre for emerging elite athletes in the southwest region. The ASDC SW was the fifth centre to open in the province and since 2008 ASDC SW has provided athletes with free high-performance and sports science training through the Athlete Enhancement Program (AEP). Alumni of the AEP include 2016 Olympian Rachel Nicol, 2017 Meridian Canadian Open Curling Champion Jessie Scheidegger and many other athletes that have represented the region in national and international competition.
Dr. Bowie continues to serve as a valued member of the ASDC SW board of directors. 'Dr. Gary Bowie has been a long-time dedicated leader in sports in Lethbridge and area, with a vision for building important institutions, including Alberta Sport Development Centre-Southwest, in a highly sustainable fashion. Many of today's local sports volunteers have been, and continue to be, inspired by Gary's wonderful role model', said current ASDC SW President, Jon Doan.
The ASDC SW is honored to have Dr. Bowie as a board member and joins the many Lethbridge community organizations in congratulating Dr. Bowie on receiving the highest honor for an Alberta citizen, the Alberta Order of Excellence.
Goalie Prep Program Unique to Southwest Alberta

Lethbridge - Top hockey goalies understand the need to develop their ability to react quickly in a chaotic environment while maintaining their composure. Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest is excited to launch a new off-season training program for hockey goalies that focuses on vision and mental training.
ASDC SW Goalie Prep program utilizes the latest vision training technology, the Dynavision D2 baord, and NeuroTracker vision software. Did you know that ASDC SW has one of three Dynavision D2 boards in Alberta and the only board south of Calgary? The Dynavision board is used by New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks and other professional sports teams to improve reaction time.
Mental training sessions will be led by ASDC SW Centre Coordinator Joshua Hoetmer (M.A. Counselling Psychology, Canadian Sport Psychology Association).
The ASDC SW Goalie Prep program is the only one of kind in Southern Alberta. The program is limited to eight athletes, accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Football Alberta and SAMFA Skills and Combine

Lethbridge - Football Alberta and Southern Alberta Minor Football Association will be hosting a skills and combine events the first week of July. The two-hour skills session and football combine will be held at the UofL Community Sports Stadium. The goal of the event is to help get SW players exposure to different coaches and experience a football combine.
The skills sessions will be led by Football Alberta and SAMFA coaches while the combined is led by the University of Lethbridge High Performance Centre and ASDC SW. This event is open to all Bantam and High School football players in the southwest region of Alberta. Players in the ASDC SW Football Prep Program will automatically be enrolled in the event.
The cost of the skills and combine event is just $79!

2017 Football Prep Program

Lethbridge - High School and Bantam football players in Southern Alberta can take advantage of the 2017 Football Prep program hosted by ASDC SW and the UofL High Performance Centre. Athletes receive strength and conditioning training, mental training, nutrition education, and vision training over a 10 week period.
Players can register in the Bantam or High School age groups with training designed for each age group. A limit of 12 athletes per group will be allowed to ensure safety and supervision of the athlete. Included in registration is the opportunity to participate in the Football Alberta/SAMFA skills and combine event on July 3rd and 6th in Lethbridge.
This program is starting after the high-school rugby season to avoid overlap. This is a great program to prepare football athletes for the upcoming season. A limit of just 12 Bantam and High School players on a first come first serve basis will be accepted. Click the link to register today!

RBC Training Ground

Lethbridge, Ab. - Athletes between the ages of 14 and 25 are invited to attend an RBC Training Ground event Saturday, March 25th. Testing takes place at the University of Lethbridge 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness, between 8am and 3pm.
RBC Training Ground will measure speed, power, strength and endurance. Each athlete will try to hit performance benchmarks set by national sport organizations (NSO) scouting for young talented athletes with Olympic medal potential.
